Why choose JPG?

HEIF is a container family rather than one codec. A JPEG copy can be easier to exchange when the receiving software cannot read your HEVC photo.

What changes in this conversion?

This converter covers tested HEVC still-image containers. HEIF can also contain JPEG 2000, AVC, VVC, uncompressed images or image collections; those variants are not universally supported.

How to convert HEIF to JPG

  1. Choose a still HEIF file with the file picker, or drag it into the workspace.
  2. Select JPG as your output format. Select the original file even if its extension is .heif rather than .heic. Signatures and primary image properties determine decoding; the filename does not.
  3. Choose Convert, then download your file. For a batch, Download ZIP collects successful results.

Limits and browser compatibility

Generic mif1 HEIF/HEVC containers and HEIC files are verified. HEVC decoding has a self-hosted WASM fallback. Other HEIF codecs, sequences and multiple top-level photos are rejected. JPEG removes alpha and uses your background. Output is SDR 8-bit sRGB with no original private metadata or auxiliary images.

Are HEIF and HEIC identical?

HEIF describes the container; HEIC commonly identifies HEVC images inside it. This page covers the verified HEVC subset, not every codec permitted by HEIF.

Will renaming a file make it supported?

No. The converter reads the container brands, primary image properties and actual encoded data. Unsupported codecs remain unsupported after renaming.

Does my file leave my device?

No. The worker reads your file locally and creates your download in browser memory. Original metadata is always removed. The output uses 8-bit sRGB pixels.

Can I convert a batch?

Yes. Select up to 24 files within the 256 MB batch limit. Each file is processed separately, so a failed image does not prevent the others from completing.
