Why choose AVIF?

AVIF can be useful for transparent web artwork and photographic PNGs. Alpha is encoded at full quality while color compression remains adjustable.

What changes in this conversion?

The app’s AVIF color encoding is lossy. Fine text, edges and gradients may change; PNG remains the safer original when exact pixels are required. Animated PNG is rejected.

How to convert PNG to AVIF

  1. Choose a still PNG file with the file picker, or drag it into the workspace.
  2. Select AVIF as your output format. Check transparent edges against both light and dark backgrounds. Keep the original PNG if this image will be edited again.
  3. Choose Convert, then download your file. For a batch, Download ZIP collects successful results.

Limits and browser compatibility

The local single-threaded encoder is tested in Chromium, Firefox and WebKit. Supported alpha is preserved, with lossy 8-bit SDR sRGB color. Output is capped at 16 MP and a separate memory budget; source limits and mobile pixel caps apply. There is no HDR, 10-bit or lossless AVIF output mode in this interface.

Will my transparent PNG keep its alpha?

Yes. Alpha is retained in the processed pixel buffer and encoded at full quality. The color channels remain lossy at the selected quality.

Is AVIF a lossless replacement for PNG here?

No. This interface produces lossy AVIF color. Keep PNG when exact pixel values or an editing archive matter.

Does my file leave my device?

No. The worker reads your file locally and creates your download in browser memory. Original metadata is always removed. The output uses 8-bit sRGB pixels.

Can I convert a batch?

Yes. Select up to 24 files within the 256 MB batch limit. Each file is processed separately, so a failed image does not prevent the others from completing.
